Social Media Storytelling: Twisting a Video Into Your Own Story

October 30th, 2010

Tweet How can you incorporate social media into your marketing communications? Here’s a perfect example of how to do that. Juan Antonio Vargas Barraza, a PhD candidate in marketing communications at the University of Madrid and University of Guadalajara, showed me these two videos on YouTube from his home country of Mexico. The first video shows a young teenager taunting his chubby friend while attempting to cross a stream, walking across a makeshift bridge. A third friend videotaped these two, documenting the fat kid’s unfortunate

BBC - SuperPower: Visualising the internet

Tweet While doing research about data visualization trends for my forthcoming book, Latino Link, I discovered a few eye-opening maps that display Internet and economic statistics in new and fun ways. In addition, when artists and illustrators envision the eighth continent, as Don DePalma calls the Internet in his book Business Without Borders, with a unique view of the virtual world, consumers respond, sharing these maps with friends via email, blogs, and social networks. Let’s take a look at a few examples here. Click on

Tweet Following is a preview of Latino Link: Building brands online with Hispanic communities and content from Paramount Books. A few weeks ago, while having a very American lunch of cheeseburgers and milk shakes, my goddaughter Madeline, 11, and her brother Ricardo, 13, asked me, “so, what’s your book about Uncle Joe?” “Well, it’s about how families like yours use the Internet and what is the best ways for companies to communicate with people who speak Spanish,” I responded. Madeline and Ricardo speak Spanish with

It’s all in a (Spanglish) brand name: Bicing and Vueling

May 4th, 2008

Tweet During my trip here in Spain, I have learned about two new, innovative companies based in Barcelona that use funny, Spanglish brand names. The first is Bicing (combining the word “bicicleta” or bike in Spanish with the English suffix -ing), which provides rental services for people that want to bike around the city. You sign up on their web site Bicing.com and once you have a card, you can “take out” one of their red bikes from one of their many bike stands around
